Art Director Jobs in Massachusetts

An Art Director in the publishing industry is primarily responsible for the visual style and images in magazines, newspapers, product packaging, and movie and television productions. They create the overall design and direct others who develop artwork or layouts. Work involves supervising a creative team that designs visual concepts for product branding or advertising campaigns, while making decisions about visual aspects of a publication, such as the layout, typeface, illustrations, and cover design.

Important skills for an Art Director include excellent artistic ability and creative thinking for designing graphic concepts, a good sense of aesthetics and typography, strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with a creative team, and leadership skills to oversee the design process. They should also be proficient with design software like Adobe Creative Suite. They typically have a bachelor's degree in art, design or a related field, and some positions may require a master's degree. A few job roles a person may have before becoming an Art Director include being a Graphic Designer, Senior Designer, or Creative Lead.
