Type of Position:
This position will begin as a 6-month contract, with strong potential for long-term employment. While the contract is initially set for 6 months, there is no fixed end date, and extensions beyond the initial term are possible. Conversion to a direct hire role may occur as early as 3 months, depending on individual performance and business needs. Although direct hire is not guaranteed, it is a common outcome for high-performing team members, and most contractors in this role do transition to permanent positions over time.
Candidate Requirements:
This role is ONLY open to US Citizens. Permanent Residents (Green Card Holders) and any other work authorizations are NOT permitted here as this role requires eligibility to obtain a secret clearance (a secret clearance is only open to US Citizens). To be clear, a clearance isnt required to start (but all candidates must be eligible to obtain one eventually). Due to the nature of this role (working for a defense contractor tied to the federal government) candidates may need to pass a drug screen (which would include cannabis). There would be no exceptions to this (eg: a medical card).
Job Location:
West Jefferson, OH (hybrid role).
Compensation:
$20.00/hr to $25.00/hr (depending on experience). Overtime paid at 1.5x over 40 hours.

- This role will have 7 paid holidays and 10 days PTO (PTO accrues over time). In going direct hire, there will be significantly more PTO.
Job Description / Duties:
HRU Technical Resources has partnered with a major federal government contractor and non-profit organization that seeks to translate scientific discovery and technology advances into societal benefits) to hire a Desktop Publisher Specialist. In this role you will coordinate the production of extensive and complex document products such as proposals and client project deliverables (e.g., study protocols, reports, etc.). You will also operate desktop publishing equipment and software packages to perform complex assignments. This role is responsible for creating documents that are 508 compliant. Responsibilities:
- Create and edit documents using desktop publishing software; must be an expert user of Adobe Acrobat XI Pro and fully utilize the technical capabilities of computer equipment to produce complex documents. Recommend overall product layout and design. Knowledge of creating bookmarks, hyperlinks, headers, and footers in Adobe is required.
- Consult with authors to ensure the effectiveness of deliverables and recommend revisions to better reflect document intent.
- Perform or assist other operators in complex publishing operations, including scientific notation and symbolism, statistical computations, spreadsheets, form layout, graphics, typesetting, and ensuring 508 compliance for detailed reports and proposals.
- Provide desktop publishing services for reports and proposals.
- Conduct final quality checks on products.
- Perform multiple revisions of copy using electronic editing tools.
- Maintain and update files including standard formats, reports, paragraphs, and statements.
- Prepare charts, graphs, or tables to present data as needed.
- Exhibit experience working with documents in SharePoint.
- Interact with internal customers to obtain detailed information and research materials as requested.
- Correct punctuation or grammar in materials and correspondence; read and interpret proofing marks and editing codes. Ensure all documents are 508 compliant.
- Direct the assembly or collation of documents.
- Maintain knowledge of professional industry practices.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED required at a minimum. Higher level education (eg: Associate or Bachelors Degree) is welcomed (but not required).
- Oral and written communication skills typically acquired through completion of high school curriculum.
- Ability to sit and operate computing equipment for up to 80% of the work shift.
- Proficiency in the English language and grammar.
- Ability to prioritize, schedule, and organize work in a high-pressure environment.
- Excellent word processing skills.
- Capability in performing standard arithmetic calculations.
- Courses in writing and grammar are desired.
- Must be skilled in making documents 508 compliant.

Work Environment / Physical Requirements:
- This role follows a 9/80 schedule, consisting of nine-hour workdays (7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) Monday through Thursday, with every other Friday off. On working Fridays, the schedule is 6 hours.
- This will be a hybrid role. Generally 3 days in office, 2 days working from home.
- Occasional overtime is possible (and any OT would be paid at 1.5x).
