Position Summary

Writer/Editor position for a faith-based non-profit organization involves developing compelling written content to be used through various platforms of print and digital marketing to effectively communicate impactful stories to stakeholders. Must be able to write for different target audiences, including familiarity with focusing on donors and fundraising.

Seeking a dependable person who can collaborate within a creative team and can meet deadlines and ensure accuracy, consistency, and clarity through editing and proofreading, all aligned with the non-profit's mission, vision, and messaging strategy communicated to both internal and external audiences.

Examples of projects include print materials (i.e., ads, flyers, postcards, etc), donor appeals, letters, scripts, speeches, e-newsletters, interviews, and, as needed, online, such as social media, blogs, podcasts, and websites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Content creation:
  • Writing engaging copy for print material, blogs, email campaigns, press releases, video and audio scripts, events, speeches, fundraising appeals, and collaborating on social media posts.
  • Developing compelling narratives highlighting the impact of the non-profit's programs and services with a call to action, to influence various targeted audiences.
  • Creating donor-centric messaging that resonates with different audience segments.
  • Editing and proofreading:
  • Reviewing and editing all written content for accuracy, and clarity while maintaining a consistent brand voice.
  • Proofreading for grammatical errors, typos, and formatting issues.
  • Ensuring messaging aligns with the non-profit's mission and values.
  • Collaboration:
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with teams
  • Working directly with the marketing team and collaborating with staff as needed to identify key messaging, develop editorial calendars, and determine appropriate content formats for different audiences.
  • Contributing creative ideas to brainstorming sessions for new content initiatives.
  • Providing feedback on design elements to enhance the overall impact of communication materials.
Required Skills
  1. Strong writing skills:
    Excellent command of grammar, punctuation, and style with the ability to adapt tone and voice depending on the audience and platform. Experience in non-profit communications or journalism is a plus but not necessary.
  2. Self-Starter:
    Brings to the table innovative ideas that can be utilized in a cross platform environment (print, video, blog, web, social media, etc). Ability to meet deadlines in a 1-2 week turnaround as well as occasional quick turn around deadlines as needed.
  3. Storytelling ability:
    Generate compelling narratives that evoke emotion and highlight the impact of the organization's programs and initiatives. Connecting with readers on a personal level, and keeping donors, volunteers, and supporters informed and engaged about the organization's activities.
  4. Editing expertise:
    Attention to detail, ability to identify and correct errors in grammar, punctuation, and style. Verify information and fact-checking as necessary to maintain accuracy in all published content.
  5. Faith-based non-profit understanding:
    Familiarity with non-profit fundraising strategies, donor motivations, and the challenges faced by the sector.
  6. A plus but not necessary, if you are comfortable in front of a camera.

Education: Four year college (Bachelor's Degree) Communications, Editorial, Writing

Experience: 1-5+ years

Certification & Licenses:

  • Degree in writing related field.
