Job Description
The PR and Marketing Manager will manage a team of Sr. PR Specialist serving public safety and justice-related departments including Police, Fire and Emergency Services, Corrections, Sheriff, Courts, and others. They will develop project management processes and oversee team workflow, ensuring strategic communications plans are developed and executed for client departments. In addition, this position will edit and review original and prepared content for errors before publishing final work. This position will accept and provide constructive criticism and resolve conflicts in order to meet the needs of managers, clients, and peers.

Essential Duties
  • Serve as a working manager to include prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff are trained; ensuring that employees follow policies and procedures; maintaining a healthy and safe working environment; and making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendation.
  • Collaborate with a team of graphic and web designers, video producers, and other public relations professionals to ensure understanding of communications needs and requirements
  • Research, write, and prepare content for social media pages, presentations, marketing materials, speeches, websites, newsletters, video scripts, and correspondence
  • Assist with media relations, including developing news releases, facilitating information requests, and conducting on-camera interviews
  • Coordinate special projects and special events
  • Keep a pulse on new communication tools/tactics and seek new opportunities to reach target audiences
  • Create content for ongoing email newsletters and maintain distribution lists
  • Manage and maintain branding and voice across platforms
Public Speaking Duties
  • Rotate as designated reader during the Board of Commissioners public meetings
  • Explain job duties to youth and adults during outreach programming
Other Job Requirements/Information
  • This job may work extended hours, including weekends, and evenings as needed to support Gwinnett County's programs and services
Grade
The grade for this position is grade 105. Salary will be dependent on education and experience.

Effective 4/11/2023, this position is eligible for the Employee Referral Program.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in public relations, marketing, communications, journalism, or a related field AND
  • 5 years of experience
    • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above will also be considered.
  • 2 years of management/supervisory experience
  • Writing samples
    • You must attach to this application your three best original writing samples that demonstrate public relations or marketing writing. Samples can include but are not limited to feature stories, articles published in print or online, news releases, events or video scripts, social media posts, or ad copy.
Preferred Qualifications in addition to the above minimum qualifications
  • Bi-lingual and able to read, write and speak Spanish proficiently
  • Strong writer with experience in proofreading, editing, and following AP style
  • Public relations agency experience
  • Experience in on-camera reporting and developing scripts for video
  • Experience developing content for digital media and measuring digital media tools for their effectiveness
