KNXV ABC15, The E.W. Scripps ABC affiliate in Phoenix, Arizona, is searching for a passionate Sports Reporter who will bring the Valley's incredible sports stories to life. From the NFL's Cardinals and the NBA's Suns to MLB's Diamondbacks and the WNBA's Mercury, Phoenix is home to hundreds of professional sporting events every year. There are also Super Bowls, All-Star Games, and Finals Fours, not to mention major college programs in ASU, U of A, and GCU. This is your opportunity to tell compelling stories that connect with sports fans across multiple platforms while being part of a dynamic team in one of the nation's fastest-growing markets.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Receive assignment or evaluate sports news leads and tips to develop story ideas.
  • Gather and verify factual information regarding stories through interview, observation, and research.
  • Cover practices, news conferences, and sporting events.
  • Organize material, determine slant or emphasis, and write story according to prescribed editorial style and format standards.
  • Shoot video and still photos to illustrate stories.
  • Edit videos for all multimedia platforms.
  • Appear on television program when conducting taped interview or narration
  • Give live reports from site of event or mobile broadcast unit.
  • Work cooperatively with photographer assigned to story, if one is assigned.
  • Assist news producer in preparing newscast.
  • Assist online staff in preparing for multi media stories.
  • Help produce and host Sports Extra on Saturdays during the College Football season. Sports Extra follows college football games on Saturday nights and features heavy coverage of college and professional football.
  • Cover major sporting events including Super Bowls, Final Fours, the Phoenix Open, and more as a multimedia journalist (MMJ).
  • Other duties as assigned

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

  • BS/BA in related discipline or equivalent years of experience preferred
  • Generally, 3+ years of experience in related field preferred
  • Flexibility to work weekends, evenings, irregular hours and holidays as required by sports schedules.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

  • Computer literacy required, including newsroom computer systems
  • Videography and non-linear editing experience required
  • Knowledge of broadcast quality camera equipment
  • Edit video on Final Cut Pro editing systems, or similar equipment
  • Strong broadcast and AP style writing skills
  • Proficient at posting content to various websites
  • Self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment
  • Adaptability to work flexible schedules including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Valid driver's license, good driving record, and ability to provide proof of insurance with the company required insurance limit.
