The Monadnock Ledger-Transcript is looking for a rising newsroom leader someone ready to help shape the future of local journalism while still doing the reporting, writing and editing that make the work matter.

The Ledger-Transcript, recently named Best Newspaper in New Hampshire, is hiring an Editor to help guide our award-winning newsroom serving the beautiful Monadnock region. Youll help shape daily and enterprise coverage, produce your own reporting, elevate the work of others and collaborate with an experienced staff using modern print and digital tools.

You'll have the opportunity to lead locally while benefiting from a broader network of experienced journalists within the newsrooms of Newspapers of New England.

What Youll Do Help lead and elevate coverage

Work with reporters to shape daily and enterprise coverage across beats. Set priorities, plan stories, keep the content calendar moving and help identify the issues, trends and voices that deserve deeper attention.

Edit stories for clarity, impact, fairness and accuracy. Coach reporters on sourcing, structure, framing and storytelling. Push for ambitious, people-centered journalism that reflects and serves our communities.

Report and write stories that matter

This is not just a desk job. Youll produce your own reporting, from breaking news and watchdog coverage to features and deeper enterprise stories.

Youll pursue stories that go beyond meetings and press releases and show how local decisions affect real people. Youll build sources, ask strong questions and write stories that help readers better understand their towns, schools, businesses and neighbors.

Youll also have room to experiment with narrative, visual, audio and digital-first storytelling.

Help drive our digital future

Think beyond the print cycle and help shape a digital-first approach to local journalism. Post to the web, write alerts, contribute to newsletters and social strategy, and look for new ways to reach readers across platforms.

We publish twice weekly in print and update our website throughout the week.

Collaborate and engage

Work closely with colleagues in the newsroom and throughout Newspapers of New England. Contribute to special projects, elections coverage, town meeting season, community initiatives and new storytelling efforts.

Engage with readers, sources and community leaders to better understand the issues that matter most. Help us listen better to our readers, our communities and one another.

Who You Are

You are a strong reporter, writer and editor with sound news judgment and a passion for local journalism.

You are organized, curious, collaborative and calm under deadline. You enjoy helping colleagues succeed and believe the best journalism starts with listening. You are comfortable working across print and digital platforms and energized by new ideas.

Previous editor experience is welcome, but it is not required. Outstanding reporters ready for the next step, recent graduates with significant newsroom leadership experience and emerging editors are encouraged to apply.
