Position OverviewThe GRA will work with the Editor of the Journal of Dramatic Theory and Criticism (JDTC) in the Department of Theatre in a managerial and editorial capacity. This is a year round 12 month appointment, renewable as long as the GRA remains a graduate student in good standing at KU.Job Description 45% - Manuscript Management & Peer Review Coordination
  • Assist the Editor in managing all stages of the article publication process, from initial submission through peer review and final publication
  • Correspond with academic authors regarding submissions, revisions, and publication timelines
  • Research, identify, and communicate with external peer reviewers
  • Track manuscript progress and ensure adherence to editorial workflows and standards
35% - Editorial Review, Copyediting & Rights Management
  • Perform copyediting for grammar, clarity, and style in accordance with the Journals editorial guidelines
  • Review submissions for proper citation, copyright compliance, and appropriate use of visual and supplemental materials
  • Address permissions and rights issues related to images, figures, and other copyrighted content
  • Support quality control to maintain the rigor of a peerreviewed academic publication
20% - Publication Systems, Web Presence & Subscription Support
  • Coordinate and maintain the Journals web presence through platforms such as Project MUSE, as needed
  • Learn and assist with managing the Journals subscription database
  • Track subscription claims and support basic reporting and recordkeeping
  • Assist with administrative and publication-related tasks that support journal operations
Required Qualifications
  1. Must be a degree-seeking graduate student enrolled in the Dept. of Theatre and Dance or related field, as indicated in application materials.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. PhD student who has passed their Doctoral Comprehensive Exam, as indicated in application materials.
  2. Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.), as indicated in application materials.
Position RequirementsDuring the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).Employment Conditions(1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.

(2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position.
