The Senior Instructional Designer manages instructional systems development projects in the Drake Institute for Teaching and Learning. This position supports Ohio States commitment to teaching excellence by designing and implementing professional learning experiences that integrate digital technologies and Artificial Intelligence (AI) across in-person, hybrid, and online modalities. The designer creates innovative, engaging materials that help Ohio State educators use AI and other digital technologies to enhance learning outcomes, advance experiential learning, develop students AI fluency, and assess student learning in an increasingly AI-supported world.
Approximately 20% of the Senior Instructional Designers time will be focused on instructional systems development for further integrating AI fluency and experiential learning in the undergraduate student experience (e.g., contributing to redesigning the General Education Bookends). The designer collaborates with Drake Institute staff and university partners to develop scalable, student-facing instructional materials and professional learning resources. This position also contributes to the ongoing professional learning of Drake Institute staff and university colleagues. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated professional who works independently and collaboratively to manage projects, communicate complex ideas, and build consensus.
Required Experience and Qualifications
- Bachelors degree or equivalent education or experience.
- At least four years of professional experience in an education institution or similar setting that includes instructional design, curriculum development, and integration of learning technologies.
- Experience with one-on-one coaching consultation techniques, technology training, and professional learning facilitation.
- Experience supporting pedagogy, andragogy, and/or Universal Design for Learning.
- Professional experience with instructional systems development (i.e., design, development, editing, deployment, and evaluation).
- Understanding of learning technologies, including AI and its applications in educational contexts, digital accessibility tools, and Learning Management Systems (LMS).
- Ability to work across academic content areas, hardware, software, and learning technologies tools.
- Experience supporting initiatives that reflect the universitys shared values .
- Capacity to effectively plan and execute multiple priorities.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and as part of a dynamic team.
