The content creator is a Multimedia Journalist (MMJ), a versatile storyteller responsible for researching, producing, and presenting news and information across multiple platforms.

This role is primarily a field producer and reporter, paired with a videographer. Some video editing is required and videography skills are preferred. The MMJ may occasionally be required to shoot news style, sequenced footage. The successful candidate has exceptional skills in field producing, interviewing, reporting, writing, shooting and editing video. Working collaboratively as part of a creative team, the MMJ has a clear understanding of how to develop and produce stories for newscasts, websites, and other content channels.

Whether working as part of a field crew, or solo shooting a social video with a mobile phone, the MMJ can develop, write and edit SEO-optimized website content, publish digital content aligned with client messaging and campaign objectives, and make social media content that engages users and aligns with storytelling strategies.

The Multimedia Journalist (MMJ) is a strategic thinker and an innovator who can work with account teams to discover, plan, create content with wide national appeal and for targeted audiences in engaging ways. The MMJ must ensure timely delivery of news stories that align with client goals, are on-brand, consistent in tone and style and meet industry standards. This role demands strong news judgment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

The MMJ is expected to be able to take full production, creative, logistical and fiscal responsibility for any project - including working directly with clients.

Requirements

WHAT YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:

  • News Judgment: Able to identify newsworthy stories and understand their impact.
  • Research Skills: Strong abilities investigating and verifying information.
  • Writing Skills: Excellent AP writing and editing skills for various audiences, platforms, and a range of styles and formats, including news releases, TV news scripts, web content, photo captions, headlines and social media posts.
  • Storytelling: Crafts compelling and accurate narratives.
  • Translator: Interpret technical and academic materials, identify valuable information and convey it in a way that resonates with the target audience.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in operating video equipment, video editing software, and content management systems.
  • Social Media Savvy: Understanding of social media platforms and how to engage audiences.
  • Self-Starter: The ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Problem Solver: Identify issues within the creative process and develop and present solutions.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 3 years of broadcast journalism experience at a news media outlet, production company and/or agency environment that is project-driven.
  • Medical reporting or health care communications experience is a plus.
  • Proven ability to conceptualize, write and visually tell news stories.
  • Excellent grammar and writing using the AP Style.
  • Passion for current events and industry trends.
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to turn around written and video content quickly without sacrificing quality of work.
  • Bachelors degree in broadcast journalism, communications, video or film production, marketing, digital media, or a related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Familiarity with influencer content collaboration is a plus.
  • Experience with video editing or motion graphics software preferred.
